Biotech groups join protest against medical-device tax

Biotech groups LifeScience Alley and BioOhio urged Congress to reduce the proposed medical-device taxes or fees intended for financing health reform. The Senate health bill seeks to collect $2 billion in the taxes every year beginning 2011, rising to $3 billion a year in 2017 through 2019. Earlier this month, other trade organizations had jointly appealed to Congress to reconsider the proposed taxes.
