UP improves its "value proposition" with safety, speed

Senior executives of Union Pacific touted the railroad's efforts to improve its "value proposition" with an improved safety and delivery record. Grade-crossing accidents and customer incidents per million train miles both decreased 26% in 2009. At the same time, UP raised its average speed to a record 27.3 mph, topping the record by 2 mph.
