Legislators propose higher fees for animal breeders in Iowa

Two Iowa lawmakers are calling for an increase in the fee charged to licensed dog breeders in the state from $20 to at least $100. Rep. Jim Lykam, D-Davenport, and Sen. Matt McCoy, D-Des Moines, said revenue from the fee increase would be used to hire an additional inspector for the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship with a focus on animal welfare.
