Pioneer of dance for individuals with disabilities dies

Anne Riordan, who pioneered techniques for teaching dance to students with mental and physical disabilities, died Saturday at age 76. A diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis curtailed Riordan's own dancing career in her 20s, after which she received a master's degree in special education and began teaching dance and adaptive physical education. Riordan also founded two dance companies for individuals with disabilities, including one for those using wheelchairs.
