Solar storm prompts Delta and United to divert flights

Delta Air Lines and United Airlines rerouted some flights to prevent communication loss due to a solar storm. During solar storms, radiation is higher at the North Pole and the South Pole because of the thin ozone layer. Delta rerouted some flights between the U.S. and Seoul, Shanghai and Hong Kong to a more southerly track. A United spokesman said the carrier diverted a flight Monday but none Tuesday.
