When will search engines start indexing display ads?

With social content starting to infiltrate display advertising, it's plausible to think that search engines could start indexing ad units and returning them as part of their results, notes Laurie Sullivan. That would require a philosophical shift for Google and other search engines, but might actually better serve their users, Sullivan argues. "No consumers would actively search out ads, but they would search out information -- information embedded in social ads," she writes.
