DIAL could serve as an AirPlay alternative

DIAL, which was developed by Netflix and YouTube, offers an AirPlay-like way to find and play streaming videos on compatible television sets, writes Nicole Lee. Unlike Apple's AirPlay, DIAL -- which stands for discovery and launch -- can launch a variety of applications, including Web applications, on the TV. The technology is already implemented in Google TV boxes and is said to be attracting interest from LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics and Sony, she notes.
