IOM calls for EHRs to be used to find service members with CMI

An Institute of Medicine report calls on the Department of Veterans Affairs to use its EHR system to identify service members who show signs of chronic multisymptom illness, a condition that affects roughly a third of those who served in the 1991 Gulf War but is not well understood by medical personnel. The IOM report also recommended that care be adjusted to individual needs and called for the VA to examine different options that can be used to treat the condition.
