Competitors can become resources when small businesses pair up to extend services, cope with emergencies and spread referrals, writes Pedro Ramirez of Angelo State University's Small Business Development Center. "The main things to remember when partnering with competitors is to always keep your most valued customers at home, never reveal too many company secrets, and try to reciprocate when it is appropriate," Ramirez says.
