Retrofits will help Wash. bridges withstand earthquakes

Washington state recently started retrofit work on several bridges on Interstate 5 in Washington state. Officials hope the extra steel and concrete will prevent the bridges from collapsing during an earthquake. A recent survey found that the bridges' design makes them vulnerable to a strong earthquake. The $12.3 million project could take almost two years, officials say.
