Retrofits will help Wash. bridges withstand earthquakes, officials say

Washington state recently started retrofit work on several bridges on Interstate 5. Officials hope the extra steel and concrete will prevent the bridges from collapsing during an earthquake. A recent survey found that the bridges' design makes them vulnerable to a strong earthquake. The $12.3 million project could take almost two years, officials say.
