American, Delta debate antitrust outlook for JAL partnership

With the Japanese government apparently unhappy about a U.S. bidding war for Japan Airlines, the focus has shifted to which foreign suitor is most likely to win antitrust approval for its partnership with the Japanese carrier. Analysts say Tokyo was uncomfortable with allowing a cash stake in the former flag carrier, forcing Delta Air Lines and American Airlines to shift their attention to the issue of antitrust immunity for their JAL partnership.
