AAR: Carload, intermodal post gains in latest week

U.S. rail carload traffic climbed 1.6% from year-ago levels during the week ended Jan. 21, while intermodal activity increased 3% in the same period, according to the Association of American Railroads. Of the 14 of 20 cargo categories that registered gains, the largest growth occurred in metallic ores shipments with a 50.8% increase, the AAR said.
