DOT responds to Spirit Airlines over new disclosure rule

The Department of Transportation has responded to Spirit Airlines' suggestion that a new disclosure rule is an effort to hide government taxes. "Nothing in our rule will prohibit a carrier from informing consumers that the fare includes a specified amount of taxes and government fees, as long as the stated fare includes those taxes and fees," a DOT representative said.
