Navy plans to acquire 1 GW of renewable energy by 2020

The U.S. Navy is planning to expand its partnerships with the private sector to acquire 1 gigawatt of renewable energy by 2020. The acquisition will allow the Navy to meet its goal of obtaining 50% of its power from renewable sources by 2020. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus will form a task force that will pick the renewable-energy projects.
