FDA approves drug aimed at sleep apnea, other sleep disorders

The FDA approved Cephalon's Provigil for patients who suffer from ailments caused by shifting work schedules, expanding the drug's indications beyond its 1998 approval as a drug for sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome. The new approval was based on studies demonstrating Provigil helps people with sleep disorders stay awake when they need to.
