With Memphis schools having become the target of various investigations exploring possible mismanagement, some observers wonder if the hubbub is distracting Boston's new superintendent Carol Johnson, who left the Memphis district several weeks before the inquiries began. "I don't think we should be worried at all about what happened in Memphis," said the Rev. Gregory Groover, the Boston School Committee vice chairman. "I'm just very confident that Dr. Johnson will take the Boston Public Schools to the next level."
