U.K.'s National Grid to invest $1.7B, improve grid in U.S.

National Grid plans to invest $1.7 billion over the next five years to improve its electric grid in New York and New England. The British company plans to build substations and transmission lines and expects to finalize contracts with NorthEast Power Alliance and New Energy Alliance by April 1. National Grid distributes electricity to 3.3 million U.S. customers in the Northeastern U.S.
