As the White House continues to press for a broad climate bill to include cap and trade, many supporters are talking about refocusing on more modest measures that realistically could win congressional approval this year. "Reality is hitting, and the reality is the American people are interested in jobs, not extreme legislation," says American Petroleum Institute Chairman Larry Nichols, who is CEO of Devon Energy. "Because of the shift in raw political power, there now has to be compromise."
