GOP lawmaker seeks wider approval for airport scanners

Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, said Tuesday he will introduce a bill designed to allow the permanent adoption of full-body scanners, which are currently still in a testing phase. Bennett said he had made it a point to go through one of the machines at Salt Lake City International Airport this week, and "I did not find it to be unduly intrusive." Bennett's position puts him at odds with Rep. Jason Chaffetz, a fellow Utah Republican who is one of the most outspoken opponents of the scanning technology.
