Hawaii legislators hope to head off tax hike

Many employers in Hawaii will face an increase in unemployment taxes of more than $1,000 per employee if the state's Legislature does not act before March. On Tuesday, a state House committee approved two plans to reduce the tax increase and stem an anticipated uptick in layoffs.
