AACN releases guidance on CAUTI prevention

A practice alert issued by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses calls for the use of pre- and post-catheterization evaluations and vigilance for the early signs of catheter-associated urinary tract infection. Nearly 40% of hospital-acquired infections in acute care hospitals are UTIs, the group said. The alert includes steps that nursing units can take to prevent UTIs.
