Government support is needed to help pave the way for biofuels

The aviation industry is looking to governments to help the development of renewable jet fuel. A number of airlines have flown commercial flights with biofuels to demonstrate their prospects, but analysts say that considerable government support is needed for commercialization. Support can help offset the higher costs of biofuels in the near term, such as the financing Lufthansa received from the German government for its biofuels demonstration program, or as subsidies to providers to plant energy crops or build refineries for renewable fuel.
