Richmond, Va., seeks to tackle childhood obesity from all angles

A food-policy task force is looking at ways to reduce obesity in Richmond, Va., while another committee is trying to make the city more bicycle and pedestrian friendly, health officials said at a forum. They said schools are ahead of physicians in addressing the issue of childhood obesity, but registered dietitian Valerie Waters says cost is the top factor in whether families can afford to eat healthy foods.
