Huawei Technologies has jumped to third place among global smartphone makers, passing Nokia, Research In Motion and HTC -- even though the Chinese company's share only approaches 5% of the market, according to research firm IDC's fourth-quarter report. IDC says smartphone shipments grew by 36% from the previous year and accounted for 45% of all cellphone sales. Samsung Electronics held a 29% share to Apple's 22%, according to IDC. A competing report from Strategy Analytics gave Samsung a 40% share and Apple a 30% share of the global market in the quarter.
