EU health official calls for tougher food-labeling rules

EU Health Commissioner Markos Kyprianou plans to introduce stricter standards on food labeling to fight the rise of obesity across Europe. The proposal would require food and beverage companies to place nutrition information on the front of the packages. Some political and industry groups, however, prefer self-regulation and are expected to oppose Kyprianou's plan.
