Business grant aims to expand college-prep program

A Minnesota-based business will give $1.4 million to St. Paul schools this academic year -- much of it to help primarily low-income and minority students through the Advancement Via Individual Determination program, which prepares average students for college. The Travelers Cos.' donation will help put that program in place in the district's elementary schools, and also will support additional leadership training for principals.
