Consumer advocates scrutinize nominee for food safety chief

Consumer groups had different views on President Barack Obama's nomination of Dr. Elisabeth Hagen as the Department of Agriculture's undersecretary for food safety. Although the nomination is not likely to face opposition, the Consumer Federation of America said consumer advocates have had "limited direct experience" with Hagen. The American Meat Institute, meanwhile, welcomed Obama's pick and said that Hagen has the "background, skills and vision to lead USDA's efforts to make sure that Americans have access to a safe and healthy food supply."
