Homes with environmentally friendly features -- from double-glazed windows to waterwise gardens -- can conserve resources, save money and be in high demand when they are for sale, writes Julie Orr, a sustainable-landscape designer. When building and furnishing a house, she suggests avoiding volatile organic compounds and formaldehyde-based adhesives and using a proper air exchange system. Low-flush toilets and aerators on all faucet fixtures can help save thousands of gallons of water.
