Lawmakers scrutinize handling of foreign terror suspects

Homeland Security Committees in both the House and Senate held hearings this week on the Justice Department's handling of the Nigerian man accused of attempting to blow up a U.S. jetliner with a bomb hidden in his underwear. Rep. Candice Miller, R-Mich., said she was "stunned" that the incident would be treated "like a simple police action," with Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab refusing to talk after being read his Miranda rights. FBI Director Robert Mueller said Abdulmutallab was interrogated twice by FBI agents before being Mirandized, and that the information "has already proved useful in the fight against al-Qaeda."
