Class I's lead rail renaissance in the U.S.

BNSF and Union Pacific are among the Class I railroads leading freight rail's resurgence, writes Gordon Dickson. The railroads are boosting their investments in infrastructure and equipment to meet demand from a diverse set of customers. "Several different market forces have come along and made rail make more sense, including the cost of trucking and congestion on roadways," said Curtis Morgan, a multimodal freight program manager at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute.
