"Gang of Eight" unveils Senate immigration plan

A bipartisan group of eight senators has unveiled a plan for sweeping immigration reforms, proposing a "tough, fair and practical" path to citizenship for illegal immigrants currently in the U.S. The group's statement of principles also calls for tougher border security, new standards for employer immigration checks and increased follow-up to ensure visa-holders leave the country on schedule. "We've made great, great progress with our Republican colleagues," said Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
