Commentary: Study results linking omega-3 intake with brain health an "overreach"

A new study that links brain volume with intake of omega-3 fatty acids drew its conclusions from just one sample per patient of the omega-3 content of red blood cells, and one MRI per patient taken eight years after the blood sample, notes John Gever in this blog post. He suggests the conclusions "are a complete overreach" because alternative explanations can't be ruled out. "They had no data on omega-3 levels in the years prior or subsequent to the blood sampling (although they gamely offered that 'it should be stable in subjects who did not alter/initiate fish oil supplementation')."
