Thai government affirms commitment to Sunday vote

Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to elections scheduled for Sunday despite the Elections Commission's opposition and protests that have lately turned violent. "Delaying the elections won't solve the problems facing our country right now. The government's assessment is that if it is delayed, the problems might not stop. There might be opportunities for fresh problems to arise," said Deputy Prime Minister Phongthep Thepkanjana.
