More health care professionals, facilities going bare

As medical malpractice premiums skyrocket, more providers, including doctors, nursing homes and hospitals, are self-insuring, making them liable for any legal action if they are sued. Many states don't require health care professionals to carry the coverage, but in Florida -- where providers have to be responsible for as much as $250,000 in any suit against them but malpractice rates are very high -- a growing number of physicians are dropping malpractice insurance.
