Diuretics as effective as other blood pressure drugs, study says

Researchers at Case Western Reserve University say a new analysis found thiazide diuretics as effective -- and sometimes even better -- than calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors and alpha-blockers in treating people at risk for metabolic syndrome and high blood pressure complications. The study followed more than 42,000 people 55 and older with high blood pressure for almost five years.
