GAO: FDA inspections of foreign companies fail to meet standards

The FDA has failed to conduct regular inspections of foreign medical-device firms, drugmakers and food companies that export to the U.S. because it is short on manpower and resources, according to Government Accountability Office reports that will be presented today before the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The medical-device industry maintains "an excellent safety record" and backs "additional appropriations for FDA," AdvaMed said in a statement.
