Natural-product makers look to grow through mass-market retailers

Target's commitment to stock up to 8 feet of natural products in its stores nationwide is fueling manufacturers' efforts toward a new growth spurt through mass-market retail. Target plans to boost sales of natural-beauty products, such as organic body lotions, face creams and shampoos. Natural care product sales in the mass market hit about $177.7 million for the 12 months ended Dec. 1, excluding Wal-Mart sales, according to data from SPINSscan Conventional.
