Ohio governor calls for major education reforms

Despite the economy, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland on Wednesday said schools must adapt to the 21st century with more effective school finance, a longer school year, programs to improve teacher effectiveness and more instruction based on individual student needs. "It is absolutely clear to me that simply tinkering with centuries-old education practices will not prepare Ohio's children for success in college, in the workplace or in life," Strickland said.
