While others lie low, some hotel chains get aggressive

Not all hotel chains are retreating into hibernation until the recession passes. Some are taking advantage of the downturn to move ahead while their competition is lying low. Concord Hospitality Enterprises, for instance, is expanding with 11 hotels under construction and recently secured a loan for a new 124-room Courtyard by Marriott in Pittsburgh. Davidson Hotel Co. plans to add as many as 10 third-party hotel management contracts this year.
