Amid slow recovery, airlines remain cautious

U.S. airlines reported steady improvement in the fourth quarter, with five out of nine major carriers posting a profit in the final months of 2009. But carriers say they won't make bold moves in the near future, such as adding capacity, ordering new aircraft or rolling back the fees that helped to blunt the huge losses of recent years. Among the reasons for their caution: higher pension, labor and fuel costs.
