Time Warner Cable will ramp up WiMAX deployments

Time Warner Cable told analysts Thursday that it will greatly expand its investment in WiMAX technology this year in order to expand its Road Runner Mobile service, which has already launched in Dallas, North Carolina and Hawaii atop Clearwire's network. WiMAX technology may only be in its infancy, but IEEE is expected to complete work this summer on an upgrade -- officially called 802.16m and known as "WiMAX 2" -- that will emphasize speed rather than coverage, according to an industry official.
