Twitter tries to outsmart Internet censors

Twitter is advocating using technology to defeat Internet censorship and prevent the company's services from being blocked by authoritarian regimes, says CEO Evan Williams. "We are partially blocked in China and other places, and we were in Iran as well," he said. "The most productive way to fight that is not by trying to engage China and other governments whose very being is against what we are about." Third-party developers are working on technological tricks to circumvent censorship and prevent official surveillance.
