Federal guidelines make schools role models for healthy eating

Officials in a Wisconsin school district say that new federal school nutrition standards, announced last week, could improve nutrition among the district's growing population of students living in poverty. In the Wausau School District, officials say, nearly 50% of students are eligible for free or reduced price school meals. "We'll be a really good role model," said Roxanne Sladek, the district's food services director. "So that when they go home or go out into the community or if they hang with friends, that they can make healthy options."
