AAP advocates parental leave benefits for interns, residents

All interns, residents and fellows in pediatric residency training programs should receive parental leave benefits that conform with the Family Medical Leave Act and state laws, according to a policy statement released by the AAP in the journal Pediatrics. Regardless of gender, residents who are co-parenting, adopting or fostering a child should be entitled to the same amount of paid leave, the group said.
