Philips bails on DVD unit to focus on other business lines

Royal Philips Electronics, which co-invented the CD with Sony, has agreed to sell its Lifestyle Entertainment unit to Funai Electric for $202 million in cash, exiting its audiovisual and multimedia business to focus on energy-efficient light bulbs and health care equipment.
