IBP Foods To Close Two Aging Facilities In Michigan

IBP Food has announced it will close plants in Detroit and Grand Rapids and layoff 1,100 workers within the next several months. Production of processed meats sold under Thorn Apple Valley, Corn King, Colonial and Wilson Certified brands are to be shifted to newer facilities in Oklahoma, Texas and Nebraska. The company, acquired by Tyson Foods last year, said the aging plants were too costly to maintain.
