Global recession introduces new kind of protectionism

The credit crunch brought with it a new style of protectionism as the richest countries raise money on capital markets and then instruct their banks to focus investment and lending on local markets, government officials and economists said at the World Economic Forum. "Large economies are accessing international capital markets for themselves," South African Finance Minister Trevor Manuel said.
