Study finds value in early treatment of gestational diabetes

Pregnant women treated for mild gestational diabetes cut in half their risk of delivering a very large baby or developing pre-eclampsia, research found. The study of 958 pregnant women at 15 medical centers showed no difference between treated and untreated women in terms of jaundice or low blood sugar rates, but treated women were less likely to have a cesarean section or babies experiencing shoulder dystocia.
