College program is designed for students with Asperger's syndrome

A program at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pa., is designed for students with Asperger's syndrome and is among a growing number of college programs aimed at preparing students with autism spectrum disorders for the workforce. The program begins while students are still in high school, allowing them to take courses and live on campus during the summer after their junior year. The students, who may easily succeed with academics, are offered specialized tutoring and residential accommodations to help address some of the social challenges they may face.
